What am I?

I took away the mountain top to give me a feeling I was tall
I also dug a deep hole that I always stare into.
Sometimes, usually around noon, I can see the bottom way down below
and it makes me feel tall and that makes me happy.

However, at night even though I sleep standing up,
I dream the mountain is even taller than before
and when I wake up in a sweat and run to the hole
it's too dark to see.

I'm trying to figure it out...the question. I'm thinking meerkat or bulldozer. I don't know?

I will be honest, I don't know what it is. The what am I was just an existential rhetoric for lack of a related title but strangely it fit as if asking like a riddle > your guesses are very good and I'd say a bulldozer with emotions. Maybe that is in the future

I love a good riddle! I guess one with no exact answer is even better. :-)

So how are the cats doing? I hope the hurricane doesn't upset the calm in your neighborhood.

my cats are healthy if obesity isnt considered a bad thing. The one that was almost normal weight is now demanding two dinners or more for some reason and is getting heavy. The hurricane is on the east coast and im on the west so if i do get it here it will have had to cross some land and weaken some.
The crazy neighbor has moved out so the neighborhood is a little nicer with that nut gone

I have one obese cat and another that barfs most his meals up so has gotten terribly skinny. I'm making special food for him which he can hold down better, but the other kitty is on senior diet plan. However, he just eats constantly and if I don't keep food in the bowl he panics and drives me nuts.
I'm glad the hurricane should dissipate for you, but who knows what path it will take... Seems aweful strong currently. We are beginning to get a little sprinkles of rain here. All the trees are parched from the hot dry summer. Most people let their grass die, it's a common site here.. Gonna take a lot of rain to help Northern California.. Southern California doesn't have it as bad The Califirnia Aqueduct continues to send them all the northern water despite the drained and depleted reservoirs. Perhaps one day they'll tap Lake Tahoe too and send all the water to LA. No one seems to care about the north.
